Despite the rather daunting news about Sri Lanka of the past months we are happy to inform you that the government recently launched a program which enables foreigners to apply for long term resident visas without having to invest large amounts of money or without having to establish B.O.I. (Board Of Investment) - approved businesses in Sri Lanka.
Everyone who is 50 years of age or above may apply for him- herself as well as for a spouse-visa and for any underage children.
The amount of US$15,000.- needs to be deposited in a local fixed deposit account as well as the applicant needs to remit US$1,500.- / monthly for his/ her support of living in Sri Lanka. The visa will be issued for the period of 2 years and can be extended/ renewed thereafter.
This makes Sri Lanka definitely a lot more interesting as a destination to retire or to escape the long and miserable winters in Europe!
