Our comfortable and cosy guest houses (Villa Gaetano and Surfers Dream) offer accommodation to suit all visitors and are located in Midigama, on the south of the island. This is one of the top surfing spots in Sir Lanka, with plenty of waves for beginners and experienced surfers.

The Villa Gaetano has eight rooms (sea views, twin or double, +/- air conditioner) and its own private beach. Our restaurant offers fresh and delicious sea food.If your budget is less you can stay in our Surfers Dream accommodation which has everything in place to guarantee a surf trip you won’t forget.

About the Philosophy behind Villa Gaetano . . .

My wife, Kanthi, and myself, Gamini, are in the key roles, organising a full service to satisfy our guests. We have two daughters and one son. Our son Udara is a well qualified hotelier who is assisting us in many ways. Our eldest daughter is now also training as an hotelier. It has become a family tradition as I have worked in the tourism industry since I was 15 years old. I was employed in a hotel in the Maldives for a period of more than 10 years (1983-1993). On my return to my home country I decided to start my own hotel.

  

  I selected the beautiful village of Denuwala because I have loved the area since I was a child. Denuwala is 22 km away from Galle and 2km from the town of Ahangama. A well-known surf spot in Asia, Midigama is only 200 meters away from our place and offers two excellent surf spots. Weligama town, where you will find a big fishing harbour, is 3 km distant.

Life if Denuwala still follows the traditional ways and it remains an uncommercialised area. There are two ancient Buddhist temples situated in beautiful locations. One is a monastery and many people go there for meditation and yoga. About 75 student monks and 12 teachers live there. The people living in the neighbourhood provide constant support for the temple.

Most people in the village of Denuwala are engaged in fishing, on both a large and small scale, recently the catching of prawns has been introduced by the fisheries department and is progressing well.

I do my best to support the local industries, especially fishing, vegetable growing and the coconut (coir) industry.

There are several small markets in Denuwala where the villagers can sell their produce. One is open each day of the week. Guests at Villa Gaetano can therefore choose from entirely fresh food as we are able to purchase fish, vegetables, rice, coconut and all other ingredients locally.

My Wife has magical talent for cooking authentic Sri Lankan rice & curry and other traditional dishes. We are proud of our cuisine, the accommodation and the service we offer our guests. We try our very best to make your stay enjoyable and to meet any individual requirements. For example, if you have special dietary needs we will try to source and prepare the right foods for you.

We are happy that a number of our guests return on a regular basis to their ‘home from home’.
